Travel preferences have also drastically changed over the years with low budget airlines making a killing. People are zipping across cities and countries like never before soaking in the convenience and comfort it offers.

International travel continues to be a major attraction even today growing at a healthy 10-12% every year. This growing trend can also be gauged from the fact that almost half of Piplsay respondents confirmed to have traveled abroad in the last few months. The US continues to be the most favored destination for most people despite the controversies around its entry restrictions. Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand remain a hot favorite because of their proximity and pocket-friendly budgets.
Cashing in on the travel craze are the many travel portals that are enticing customers with their lucrative offers. Yet, for all the competitive prices and ease of booking offered by them, a majority of Piplsay respondents still seem to prefer making direct bookings. This goes to show that Indians, despite being price sensitive like to play it safe.

Irrespective of whether they are preferred or not, there is no denying the fact that online travel portals have become a big business, offering quick solutions in today’s fast-paced world. Right from booking your travel and stay to helping you find local cabs, they have revolutionized the way we plan our trips. It is no surprise, then, that the online travel industry in India commands over 70% share of the total e-commerce market.
Amongst the lot, MakeMyTrip is the most popular choice for a majority of the respondents. While the top three alone seem to take up half the share, market potential is driving up competition as new entrants continue to join the race. Businesses are going all out to woo their customers, be it dishing out attractive offers or boosting its star power. While MakeMyTrip has current heartthrobs Alia Bhatt and Ranvir Singh as their brand ambassadors, Yatra and Goibibo have roped in Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone to spike their numbers. This is definitely one clash that is hard to miss.
But while brands fight it out amongst themselves, it’s the typical Indian traveler who is ultimately emerging the winner. So why make any noise when one is totally spoilt for choice?
